Redwood City, California – November 30, 2018 – Toontown Rewritten is taking a step where no Toon has ever stepped before: W. "The Options Update" is breathing life into the 15 year old MMO with features such as keybinds, antialiasing, animation blending, and an overhaul of movement mechanics.
After years of oppression by hard-coded controls dictating how they can play, fans of Disney’s Toontown Online are finally breaking free from the direction of the arrow keys. Toontown Rewritten is putting an end to their agony with a new update focused on alleviating some of the ways that Toontown hasn’t aged so gracefully.
"Features like bindable keys are a dime a dozen, but that wasn’t the case in 2003 when Toontown released," said Joey Ziolkowski, the game’s Creative Director who volunteers his time among many others to develop Toontown Rewritten. "Getting excited about bindable keys in a game seems silly, but for the Toontown community this is monumental. Silliness is what we’re all about, so we’re embracing it rather than just throwing it out there like any old update. It’s a situation perfectly fit for Toontown."
In addition to bindable controls, Toontown Rewritten is rolling out a set of visual improvements and an overhaul of movement mechanics to keep the game feeling fresh. Despite the closure of Disney’s Toontown Online in 2013, Toontown Rewritten has managed to carry on the game’s legacy for over five years with thousands of players active every day.
