Redwood City, California – June 7, 2019 – E3 may have exciting things in store for the gaming world, but fans of Disney’s Toontown Online are gearing up for something different. Sixteen years after the initial launch of Disney’s Toontown Online, the free-to-play revival known as Toontown Rewritten is hosting its fifth annual “ToonFest” convention in Pittsburgh, PA at the ReplayFX Arcade & Gaming Festival from August 1-4.
From 2003 to 2013, Disney proudly operated the award-winning massively multiplayer online game, Toontown Online. Even after ten years of non-stop cartoon chaos; fans weren’t ready to put down the pies in the battle against the Cogs just yet. Shortly after the game’s closure, Toontown Rewritten launched with the aim of keeping Toontown Online and its community alive for free. Since then, it has attracted nearly 2 million registered accounts and hosted an annual convention that attracts hundreds of players from all over the world.
At ToonFest, attendees can expect all sorts of activities designed around bringing the fun of Toontown to the real world. The Toontown Rewritten Team will also be announcing new content, sharing behind-the-scenes info, and even staging a humongous pie toss event. Additionally, the event will feature special guest appearances from Jesse Schell and Shawn Patton, industry veterans who worked on the original Toontown Online and are currently working at Schell Games in Pittsburgh, PA.
“Something like ToonFest goes to show how strong this community is,” says a ToonFest attendee named Michael, who goes by Smirky Bumberpop online. Michael recently brought Toontown to the front page of Twitch while raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which successfully raised over $10,000 in donations from viewers.
